This course has a ‘first responder’ focus, and is suitable for people who want to understand mental health challenges and learn how to offer support. A first responder is associated with professional individuals who have specialist training in emergencies. However, the first responder is often a bystander (someone like you and me), on an emergency scene, providing the very first few minutes of support.

Important information prior to enrolment

  • This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

  • An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

    Communication skills sufficient to engage in effective dialogue, and understand complex concepts related to mental health.

    Online study options: The online learning program can be found in the student portal. Students must have access to a computer, smart phone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online studies and practical assessment.

  • Face to Face Delivery 6 hours

    Online with Face to Face Delivery 90 minutes

  • Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the Assessment Activities section.

  • This certificate does not require renewal

What happens at the course?

  • Performance task demonstrations

    • Case Study: Demonstrate an understanding of mental health

    • Scenario 1 - Provide Support for a mental health concern

    • Scenario 2 - Provide Support for a mental healh crisis

    Theory assessment:

    Assessment consists of multiple choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
